+Problem Statement
The man lost in the dungeons … the rescue commando… together they search their way out…
Can u help????
Its simple!!!!
Just make one autonomous and one manual robot such that the manual bot guides the autonomous bot out of a square grid of cells, covering a specified number of checkpoints, and reaches the end point.
+Arena Specifications
Base of the Maze
- The base of the maze will be a black wooden surface divided into a 3x3 grid. The dimensions of the maze are 2.75mx2.75m.
- Each cell in the grid will be bounded by rectangular walls. The dimensions of each cell are .9mx.9m.
- The cells will be open from top.
- The cell will be divided into four equal parts by two mutually perpendicular tracks intersecting each other at the center of the cell. The lines will be white in color( standard chart paper white) and will be of width 2cm with a tolerance of 10%.
Walls
- The walls will be wooden, hollow and black in color.
- The dimensions of the wall are 90cmx2.5cmx35cm.
- A door will be located at the center of each wall.
Door
-
The door will be made of plywood with a hook projecting from the centre. The dimensions of the door are 30cmx2.5cmx35cm.
- There will be grooves provided in the wall on either side of every door, to allow the manual bot to open the door completely.
- The hook shall be placed in a vertical position on the door. The length of the hook is 7.5cm and the depth of the hook is 2.8cm.
- The door will be white in colour.
- The outer perimeter walls that do not have doors will have correspondingly white areas painted on the walls.
-
The door can be slid either ways into the hollow walls.
Other specifications to be notified shortly.
+Robot Specifications
Each team should have 2 robots - A mechanical bot and an autonomous bot.
The Commando
-
The commando will be a manual bot which has a mechanism to open the doors.
- The commando bot must fit in a cube of dimensions 25cmx25cmx25cm.No part/mechanism of/on the bot should exceed the given dimensions. The bot can exceed the dimensions once the competition commences.
- LEGO kits or its spare parts are not allowed, but the participant can use readymade gear boxes or bases.
The Lost Man
-
The lost man will be an On board Processing autonomous robot which is capable of recognizing an open door and moving out through it
- The lost man bot must fit in a cube of dimensions 20cmx20cmx20cm.No part/mechanism of/on the bot should exceed the given dimensions.
-
LEGO kits or its spare parts are not allowed, but the participant can use ready made gear boxes or bases.
+The Mission
- The lost man is stranded at the origin cell (1,1).
- The commando starts at the cell (3,3).
-
A selected group of cells would be designated as checkpoints and their no will vary from 1-3 depending upon the round.
-
The position of the checkpoints will be disclosed only at the time of the events.
- The end point for the lost man would be cell (3, 3).The lost man can enter the end point only after it has cleared all the checkpoints.Once it has entered the cell (3,3) it cannot move out of the cell.
-
The commando (manual bot) has to guide the lost man to the end point passing through each check point.
+Rules of the Mission
- Any kind of interaction, physical or sensor based, between the autonomous and mechanical bot will lead to disqualification.
- Presence of both the bots or any part of the bots at the same square at the same time will lead to penalty.
- The lost man (autonomous bot) can move out of the cell only if exactly one of the door of that cell is open.Failure to do so would lead to a penalty.
- In case of malfunctions the participant can either
- Restart. In such a case the time will be paused and the bots will be replaced at the initial positions i.e. (1,1) and (3,3). The mission will be restarted with the time continuing from the point of restart. The score will be calculated taking the total time in account.
- Abandon Mission . In such a case the run time will be assumed to be 600s and the score will be calculated.
- Restart. In such a case the time will be paused and the bots will be replaced at the initial positions i.e. (1,1) and (3,3). The mission will be restarted with the time continuing from the point of restart. The score will be calculated taking the total time in account.
- Both wired and unwired control of the robot is allowed, but the ROBOTIX team is not responsible for providing an interference free area
- The autonomous bot cannot move any door, deliberately.Deliberate movement of the door by the lost man will lead to a penalty. In such cases the decision of the .:ROBOTIX:. team shall be final and binding.
- A door is regarded as open if more than 3cm of the clearance is left uncovered by the door. The manual bot has to ensure that for a door to be closed not more than 3cm of the clearance should be left uncovered. In such cases the decision of the .:ROBOTIX:. team shall be final and binding.
- The participants will be provided with 220volts 50Hz standard AC supply. Participants will have to themselves arrange for any other power supply required for their robot.
- We will be providing only a desktop computer (P-IV, 256 MB ram, Windows XP).
- No programmers will be supplied. Participants will have to bring their own programmers, cables and soft-wares.
- The decision of the ROBOTIX team will be final and binding.
- Only the power source will be allowed to be outside the autonomous bot. All other circuitry and sensory equipment should be placed on the autonomous bot adhering to the ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS listed above.
- The control box of the manual bot can be outside the dimensional specifications.
- The right spirit of participation is expected from the participants.
NOTE:
The ROBOTIX team reserves all rights to publish the participants' algorithms on the net. However the participant shall remain the sole author of the content.

+Scoring Rules
The scoring formula is:
600+100*Nc - T + B - 50*Ns - 50*No - 50*Nd
Nc = Number of checkpoints cleared.
T = Time of run in seconds.
B = 200 for reaching the end point.
Ns = Number of times both the bots are in the same cell.
No = Number of times the bot moves out with more than one door open.
Nd = Number of times the autonomous bot deliberately tries to open the door.
